What’s the difference between electrolysis and laser hair removal? Which is more effective?
Suggestion by Heather
same thing.

In Electrolysis, a fine needle is inserted into your hair follicle and then a jolt of electricity is provided which destroys the follicle. The procedure is done one hair at a time. You must be able to see the hair to treat it. In laser hair removal, a laser pulse the size of a quarter is released. The laser pulse is attracted to melanin in a hair shaft so it heats up the hair shaft and destroys the follicle. For laser, the follicle must be in an active growth mode for the procedure to work. Laser also doesn’t work on blond or gray hairs.
In general, electrolysis works and is best for very small areas. It is also more painful.
Laser is best for medium to large areas and few treatments are necessary than are required for electrolysis.

Has anyone ever tried electrolysis AND laser hair removal?
If so, wich works better? Please list your skin color, hair color, etc.
Suggestion by FireRaider
Nope. Just buy that cream that makes your hair fall of in a sec…
However, I heard of this procedure. I suppose it is a valid method.
First of all a very dark skin color makes your skin absorb too much radiation. Not good.
Then the hair must be definitely darker than your skin.
That’s just about it.
Note RESULTS ARE NOT GUARANTEED. May grow back faster than you think.
Just use that cream I told you about. I USED IT !!! And it works very good.

how effective is electrolysis for hair removal?
1) how effective is electrolysis for permanent hair removal?
2) what’s exactly the difference between laser and electrolysis?
3) I’m transsexual, MtF and I heard electrolysis is better than laser..?
4) will there be a skin damage, which will be forever? (I don’t have any skin damage because of laser)
And does it hurt a lot? :S

Okay. Electrolysis is the act of electrolyzing the hair’s root. That is, giving it small pulses of electricity. It’s painful, and it takes some times to get effective. It also takes very long since you have to do it by the hair. But effective? Very, very much so.
Laser is not really removing hair, but thinning him out. I, personally, haven’t done it, but I heard it hurts, has some side effects, and can’t be used on all skins and hairs. You’ll never be hairless with laser, but a big portion of the hair would disappear.
Which is more effective? Electrolysis. That’s probably why you heard it’s better. But beware, you have to find a recommended professional to do either, it’s very dangerous. They both could cause skin damage, but that’s why you have to make sure your skin type is safe for laser use.
If I may, I recommend a slightly newer technique called IPL. It’s very similar to laser, but it less dangerous, more effective, and from experience, almost painless. It, also, has a skin type limitation, so you better check it first.

Electrolysis, is the only permanent method of hair removal.
What do you think? Answer below!

1. Very.
2.Laser works by firing a concentrated burst of light energy through the skin, creating a brief (but high) thermal difference between the hair follicle and the surrounding tissues, which destroys the follicle by boiling it.
If the hair follicle is not pigmented, or the skin is, the Laser can’t create a high enough temperature differential to achieve this, so it’s less effective on blonde or light-coloured hair, or coloured skin.
Electrolysis works by inserting a fine needle into the follicle, and passing a high frequency current into it. This creates a similar temperature difference, but also hydrolysis the fluid in the follicular cells, so the follicle is destroyed both thermally and chemically.
Electrolysis is slower than Laser, because of the need to insert the needle correctly. True Laser treatment is slightly faster; IPL (Intense Pulsed Light), which works in a similar way, but covers 2-3 square inches of skin at a time, is faster than both.
But whichever method is used, it will take a year or two; at any given time, around 1/3 of the hair follicles in the skin are dormant (all hair follicles cycle between active and dormant; the cycle takes about 8-12 weeks), and neither method will destroy these follicles until they become active again.
Electrolysis has been shown to be permanent; Laser/IPL is believed to be permanent, but as it’s a relatively new technology, there aren’t any reliable long-term studies to verify this.
3. ‘Better’ is subjective. See above.
4. There is always a possibility of skin damage, and permanent scarring, with either method. However, in the hands of a properly-trained and skilled technician, the risk is very low.
Yes, it DOES hurt a lot.
Light skin and medium brown hair.
Electrolysis was great….it’s kind of like 30 sessions of a woodpecker driving its beak into you. The electrologist also told me their was a risk of scarring that may take time to reveal itself.
Laser hair removal hurt far less and was much faster. I am also hair free 6 years after treatment. Just make sure you go to someone good and that you don’t tan 3-7 days before treatment.
Plucking (tweezing), Shaving, Depilatory creams and Waxing are temporary hair removal methods. Waxing usually lasts for 3 weeks, but it is painful. Electrolysis and laser hair removal are “permanent” hair removal methods but are expensive and you have to find a trained professional, otherwise your skin could be damaged. A review of the various hair removal methods is available at http://3rc.info/
Yes, I’ve tried both. I tried the laser first but it didn’t work for me. I am now having electrolysis done and it’s working but I’ve been going once a week for four months. I’ve done some research on permanent hair removal and found out that electrolysis is the only one that is permanent, with the others your hair can grown back. I think with laser if the hair growth is from of a hormone imbalance or if your hair is very light in color it doesn’t work as well. I guess that’s why it didn’t work for me. I have fair skin and very light hair (almost white). I hope this has helped you.
I have been receiving laser treatments for my chin and around my face for about almost a year. I have medium dark skin and dark hair. I seems to be successful, since I have noticed that my facial hair seems to be not as thick as it once was, and I am getting bald spots in the places there was hair. I had very thick face hair:( and it is working. Only thing is if you have very light hair it won’t work for you. If you have dark skin and hair, you will have trouble too. You will have to go to treatments longer and pay more. It’s worth it though to me:)
my sisters friend does electrolisis and she said her mom did it when she was younger adn her hair is jsut comnig back now (she is about 50)
never entered my mind
